Who Is Seedler the Squirrel

Seedler the Squirrel is all around you. He is with you at home, at school, at work, at the store, and on vacation. He is your neighbor, your boss, your schoolteacher, your mayor, and someday he just might be your president.

Seedler is the title character in Seedler the Squirrel and the Alliance of The Woods. It's a story with cute, furry rodents staying in hotels, talking to crickets, and trying to figure out how to not get eaten by scaly, slithery snakes.

In it there's a big company where a lot of the munks work, and an interesting thing that happened was that I was inclined to make business the good guy. I studied economics in college and wound up building some simple business concepts into the story. Write what you know, they always say.

Think how often the big corporation is portrayed as the greedy, pillaging sleazeball. They plunder the environment, they raid pension funds, they get huge bailouts, and they keep secrets about sticky accelerators.

The truth is that businesses, and most business men and women, are good. Just check the sponsorships of your local museum, or look on the back of the jerseys of your kids' little league team. They work hard; they take risks; they survive; they compete; they employ; they keep prices down, they innovate. It's a good thing, because the private sector will employ 80 or 90 percent of our kids someday, so we might as well encourage them. We might as well show them that if they work hard, smart, and with integrity, they'll probably do okay, and maybe, just maybe, make a difference.

I wrote Seedler for fun. I don't know if it'll ever be published. I'm going to post some--maybe all--of it here. But if you like it, let me know. If you want more, let me know. If you hate it, tell me why (I can take it!). Just wish me luck--hopefully in a couple years you'll see Pixar make a movie out of it!
